Summary: |
every year about 1.300 million tons of foodstuff are wasted worldwide; in
the meantime, about thousand million people do not eat regularly and they die
because of that. In order to face this situation properly, the European Comission have created a new european Platform to fight against food losses and food waste. The
platform aims to support every stakeholder in the definition of the measures needed
to avoid food waste, share best practices, evaluate the improvement of this measures
and to encourage intersectorial cooperation. The European Counsel is worried about
the amount of food produced but not eaten, and its impact on the economy, social
life and other enviromental aspects. This paper analises the reasons and
consequences of food losses and food waste, presents the European actions in this
respect and explains the situation in Spain, so that it provides a global perspective
on the importance of every member State to get involved and take part into a circular
economy in order to reduce food waste |
