organize culture and subjectivity (in communication systems, information networks, etc.) as well as bodies (in well-being systems, monitored leisure activities, etc.) with the aim of inducing a state of alienation.

Nous y analyserons la trajectoire suivie par la vieille Europe, depuis les procédés punitifs mis en oeuvre à travers le supplice physique jusqu�à l�apparition des prisons modernes. Dans des sociétés toujours plus envahies par les valeurs propres au capitalisme, le pouvoir est exercé par l�entremise de machines et de technologies qui organisent directement la culture et la subjectivité (au sein des systèmes de communications, des réseaux d�information, etc.) et les corps (dans des systèmes de bien-être, d�activités de loisirs surveillés, etc.), dans le but de créer un état d�aliénation.Este trabalho problematiza a reflexão teórica sobre controle social, a partir dos poderes instituídos nas sociedades capitalistas durante os séculos XIX e XX. Enfoca a trajetória que perpassa a velha Europa, desde os processos punitivos praticados através dos suplícios físicos até o surgimento das penitenciárias modernas. Em sociedades cada vez mais invadidas por valores próprios do sistema capitalista, o poder é exercido mediante máquinas e tecnologias que organizam diretamente a cultura e a subjetividade (em sistemas de comunicação, redes de informação etc.) e os corpos (em sistemas de bemestar, atividades de lazer monitoradas, etc.) no objetivo de um estado de alienação.Este trabajo pone en perspectiva la reflexión teórica sobre el control social operado por los poderes instituidos en las sociedades capitalistas durante los siglos XIX y XX. Se analiza la trayectoria transitada por la vieja Europa, desde los procedimientos punitivos practicados mediante los suplicios físicos hasta la aparición de las penitenciarías modernas. En sociedades cada vez más invadidas por valores propios al sistema capitalista, el poder es ejercido a través de máquinas y tecnologías que organizan directamente la cultura y la subjetividad (en los sistemas de comunicación, las redes de información, etc.) y los cuerpos (en los sistemas de bienestar, las actividades de ocio vigiladas, etc.) con el fin de crear de un estado de alienación.Instituto de Ciências Humanas e Filosofia.
