Summary: Throughout history, the recognition and realization of social, cultural, and economic womens rights, which make part of the right to work, have been limited. The achievements and recognitions have been the result of prolific social movements that demand for inclusion and advocate for egalitarian treatment between men and women, as well as for differential considerations because of gender. In this sense, policy changes do not fail to involve differential effects for men and women. Because of that, this research explores the policy impacts from the gender perspective, by, firstly, exposing a conceptual reflection on work as an occupation or as a right of women, and secondly, recreating two scenarios of the female labor market in Colombia: the pre-Act 789 of 2002 and the one after it, without aiming at a deep development of economy-related contents on the contributions of womens labor to the market or the inclusion of the gender perspective in the countrys labor laws.
