At European Union (EU) level some academic studies have revealed an impro¬vement in the activity and accountability of EUinstitutions as a result of an intervention that seeks the inclusion of good administrative standards and its control. In this sense, it is the duty of romanists to highlight the true origin of the institution in the Ombudsman civitatis. Through its study we must also provide keys to help build a more effective legislative framework that takes into account elements and parameters of utility that Roman Law has contributed throughout history and will continue to do so in the futureRecientemente se observa un mayor interés el interés por la figura del defensor del pueblo, incitándose al debate jurídico sobre la posibilidad de que se le reconozcan a esta institución de contundente perfil democrático ciertas competencias jurisdiccionales flexibles, procedimientos accesibles y el desarrollo creativo de estándares normativos tanto en el ámbito nacional como supranacional. En concreto, en el ámbito de la Unión Europea (UE), algunos estudios académicos han revelado una mejoría en el comportamiento y responsabilidad de las instituciones y cuerpos de la UEcomo consecuencia de la intervención que procura la inclusión de buenos estándares de administración como consecuencia de su intervención y control.
