Summary: Interest in the Ombudsman has recently increased, prompting a legal debate on the possibility of granting this institution, with a strong democratic pro¬file, flexible jurisdictional powers, accessible procedures, and the creative development of regulatory standards at national and supranational level. At European Union (EU) level some academic studies have revealed an impro¬vement in the activity and accountability of EUinstitutions as a result of an intervention that seeks the inclusion of good administrative standards and its control. In this sense, it is the duty of romanists to highlight the true origin of the institution in the Ombudsman civitatis. Through its study we must also provide keys to help build a more effective legislative framework that takes into account elements and parameters of utility that Roman Law has contributed throughout history and will continue to do so in the future
