In the first place, the divergence of strategic interests between the two shores of the Atlantic is analysed to see, then, the consequences of the lack of definition of the objectives pursued in the current war by the western allies and the internal tensions that emerge between them. Next, the ideological interpretation that is offered about the nature of the conflict is discussed. Finally, the argument for the European Union not to incur in a strategic subordination that would lead to the fragmentation of the international system into blocs is proposed.Este artículo plantea una reflexión sobre las consecuencias que se pueden derivar de la actual guerra de Ucrania, del riesgo que entraña fragmentar el futuro sistema internacional en bloques enfrentados y la necesidad de que la UE defina una estrategia autónoma en defensa de sus propios intereses. En primer lugar, se analiza la divergencia de los intereses estratégicos entre las dos orillas del Atlántico, para ver, a continuación, las consecuencias que entraña la indefinición de los objetivos perseguidos en la actual guerra por los aliados occidentales y las tensiones latentes que afloran entre ellos. A continuación, es discutida la interpretación ideológica que se trata de ofrecer sobre la naturaleza del conflicto.
