Nevertheless, despite all these advances and the numerous legislative and regulatory provisions devoted to the notion of compensation and its implementation methods, many questions remain.En contra de la creencia popular, la compensación ecológica existe en el ordenamiento jurídico francés desde hace unos cuarenta años. Sin embargo, es sobre todo a partir de 2016 cuando se ha ido concretando, además de consagrarse efectivamente en la ley. Al imponer la obligación de obtener resultados, dentro de la secuencia «Evitar, Reducir y Compensar», la ley pretende crear una «oferta de compensación», en particular mediante la creación de sitios naturales de compensación.
