Sumario: Precarious work has multiple dimensions, in terms of its description, its explanation, and the possible actions to reverse it. This text phenomenon, focusing attention on four elements that help understanding the extent and depth of this plenomenon, focusing attention on four elements that shape the employment relationship, such as the duration of the contract (temporary contracts), the length of the working day (part-time contracts), the wage, and the distribution of the working day (and its planning). The regulation of some these aspects provides elements for understanding the different forms of precarious work; insufficient and unstable income, job career insecurity, as well as insecurity with regarding life timings, which are conditioned by working time. The compilation of some data draws a picture of the extent of job insecurity in Spain and, consequently, puts into context the need for changes so that the legal regulations do not contribute to precarious work. Although it must be acknowledged that precarious work can only be fully understood on the basics of determinants that go beyond the legal framework, it is no less true that labour regulations are capable of limiting its extension.
