Summary: Teaching has always represented a challenge when it comes to achieving new techniques and dynamics to transmit knowledge to others. The way in which information is accessed today, in addition to the means of socializing, have become increasingly digital, allowing the university population to adapt to new doctrines that include virtual evaluation. In this sense, the concept and trend of virtual universities is changing in modern organizations and higher education. The evolution and changes within education in all its areas will continue to occur, especially with the appearance of new information and communication technologies (ICT). Higher education players expect virtual universities to grow and serve a more diverse set of students. These universities have innovated new ideas, such as new organizational structures, collaboration models, delivery modes, policies, assessment models, funding models, and new skills on the part of students, faculty, and administrators. During the development of the research process, we try to show the trends and changes in virtual universities in higher education and explain some of the main factors that influence virtual universities in the new era.
