Summary: As a transition period and its relation to the labour market, youth is an area of study with particularities and specificities. These differential characteristics of youth employment could be seen as an opportunity to strengthen social cohesion through their integration into the work market and not as the basis for lower quality, temporary and more precarious working conditions. The challenge for states is not only to create jobs for young people, but also to guarantee that they are decent and of high quality. The concept of decent work is presented as an objective parameter that no youth employment policy can omit or undermine. This paper addresses the reality of work and young people from a life-cycle perspective and focuses on the particular reality of youth employment in Spain.
