In Brazil, Political Parties are losing their role in the popular representative function, because according to the society’s perception, Political Parties became oligarchies working only in favor of their own interests. This paper aims to clarify whether Political Parties became a parasite in democracy or if they are capable to benefit the society considering the political scenario. Based on a fundamentally bibliographic methodology, this approach considers the current Brazilian System of Law, the Brazilian Federal Constitution and the Brazilian Electoral Code, besides scholars’ understanding in Electoral Law. This study is necessary due the importance to encourage reflection on democracy defense and the need for political awareness in order to force Political Parties to retake their role in society.O objetivo deste artigo é discorrer sobre o papel dos partidos políticos no sistema democrático brasileiro, com a perspectiva de analisar se tais entidades representativas são atualmente fomentadoras ou empecilhos às práticas políticas, uma vez que no Brasil os mesmos estão perdendo o papel de representante popular, pois para a sociedade os partidos se transformaram em oligarquias com o intuito de atender os seus interesses particulares. O trabalho visa a esclarecer se tais entidades se tornaram parasitas da democracia ou se são os entes capazes de entregar à sociedade o melhor em termos políticos. Com metodologia fundamentalmente bibliográfica, a abordagem contempla a legislação brasileira em vigor, constituição e código eleitoral, e entendimento de doutrinadores do Direito Eleitoral.
