A brief explanation is given about the slave model used in Brazil, patrimonialism, colonelism and patronage, and how this political culture has damaged the way citizenship is exercised at the national level.Desde 2013, o Brasil vem enfrentando uma crise política e institucional que reflete uma dificuldade histórica com o adequado exercício da cidadania no seio da sociedade nacional. O presente artigo busca esclarecer alguns dos bloqueios existentes à cidadania no Brasil e como se relacionam com a atual crise política, de que forma a classe política nacional fez uso destes bloqueios e como a sociedade civil se responsabiliza por tal.
