Statistics published by DANE, CEPAL, and other institutions of interest for the study were used for data collection. The results indicate that Colombia is going through a total transition of the demographic bonus, which represents an important opportunity for the development of the country, and it is estimated that the population will go through an accelerating rate of aging in forty years.En este artículo se analiza el proceso de transición demográfica en Colombia a raíz de los cambios de la estructura etaria de la población, el cual se da por el paso de altas a bajas tasas de mortalidad y natalidad. Se pretende identificar cómo se ha modificado y qué cambios ha generado la composición demográfica durante las últimas décadas en el país. En la recolección de datos se utilizaron estadísticas publicadas por el DANE, la CELADE y otras instituciones de interés para el estudio.
