Summary: This article analyzes the demographic transition process in Colombia deriving from changes in the age group structure of the population produced by the changes from high to low mortality and birth rates. It intends to identify how the demographic composition has been modified and what changes have been generated during the past decades in the country. Statistics published by DANE, CEPAL, and other institutions of interest for the study were used for data collection. The results indicate that Colombia is going through a total transition of the demographic bonus, which represents an important opportunity for the development of the country, and it is estimated that the population will go through an accelerating rate of aging in forty years.
