Summary: |
This article analyzes the demographic transition
process in Colombia deriving from changes in the
age group structure of the population produced by
the changes from high to low mortality and birth
rates. It intends to identify how the demographic
composition has been modified and what changes
have been generated during the past decades in the
country. Statistics published by DANE, CEPAL, and
other institutions of interest for the study were used
for data collection. The results indicate that Colombia
is going through a total transition of the demographic
bonus, which represents an important opportunity for
the development of the country, and it is estimated
that the population will go through an accelerating
rate of aging in forty years. |
