Summary: Family owned businesses have a particular dynamic amongst its members, producing a very peculiar corporate governance, which makes these businesses the object to many studies. The peculiarity in the interaction and relation between its members amount for the implementation of legal tools to give order and structure to the business. The present study presents its readers with legal tools to organize and give structure to the family business; assign decision-making powers to the directors of the family business, create a system to measure results and implement incentives for the director’s performance results. Furthermore, the study recommends the creation of a succession plan to implement within the business in order to help with the generational transition.
