The liberalization of the railroad at European level tries to be a means for the achievement of the essential purpose: the improvement in the provision of the service. The impact in Spain of the liberalization of passenger transport in December 2020 will be important, as it has excellent high-speed infrastructure that will make the commercial exploitation of some important corridors desirable, so competition between operators is expected to be real from the beginning and suppose the achievement of the mentioned objective, as it has happened in other countries: an improvement of the service and, consequently, a benefit for the citizens.El sector ferroviario ha estado ligado tradicionalmente al ejercicio de potestades públicas por parte de los Estados, por lo que el proceso de liberalización, con la consecuente pérdida de influencia sobre el sector y las empresas nacionales de bandera que lo gestionaban, ha sido largo y tortuoso. La liberalización del ferrocarril a nivel europeo trata de ser un medio para la consecución del fin esencial: la mejora en la prestación del servicio.
