Summary: The aim of this paper is to examine the situation of Legal History at Buenos Aires University´s School of Law between June and August of 1973, under the administration of acting dean Mario Kestelboim, who, amidst deep political and social transformations, tried to implement a series of significant changes to the faculty, the curriculum and the research institutes. A wide range of sources were used for this research: resolutions by the dean, teachers’ files, the written press, militant newspapers and some interviews with relevant actors at the time. We also analyze the state of Legal History prior to August 1973 and the reactions to Kestelboim’s administration, who took control of the Legal History Institute prompting the resignation of its leading members. Finally, we provide a brief account of the six professorships of Argentine Legal History created during the period under study, the legal-historical work carried out by Ortega Peña at the School of Law and the foundation of the Legal History Research Institute (INHIDE).
