The new information and communication technologies have had a profound impact on labor relations.
Video surveillance provides an ideal way for employers to control the work perfomance of
employees, however, this affects some of their fundamental rights, such as personal and familiar
intimacy, own image and data protection. The rise of these new instruments has led to, on the one
side, discordant and interesting legal rulings both from european and national courts and, on the
other side, the adoption of new regulations on data protection matters, with explicit reference to its
treatment in the work sphere. Nevertheless, so far, nothing has been said about the numerous conflicts
that may arise when installing these systems to control the performance of domestic workers. |
