The article proposes to place in the current and contemporary context the contents and reflections of Simón Bolivar’s Jamaica Charter concerning the 200 years of its writing and its importance in the Latin American thought and literature. Along with the commemoration of the epistle, called “prophetic letter”, the images of the “Liberator” are reconstructed, in the work and thought of the Colombian essayist and critic Baldomero Sanín Cano, considered one of the “Masters of America” and beacon of the continent’s intellectuality in the XX century. Under these references, the writing emphasizes the relevance and timeliness of both characters; it also proposes to give effect and memory the Utopia of America, based on their opinions, writings, debates and reflections.

Paralelamente à comemoração da epístola-ensaio, chamada “carta profética”, reconstroem-se as imagens do “Libertador”, na obra e pensamento do ensaísta e crítico colombiano Baldomero Sanín Cano, considerado um dos “Mestres da América” e um farol da intelectualidade do continente no século XX. Sob esses referentes, o texto salienta a pertinência e a atualidade de ambos os personagens, ele visa, ainda, dar vigência e memória à Utopia da América, concebida e traçada por estes dois arquitetos da América, a partir das suas opiniões, textos, debates e reflexões.El artículo propone colocar, en el contexto contemporáneo y actual, los contenidos y las reflexiones de la Carta de Jamaica de Simón Bolívar, a propósito de los 200 años de haberse escrito y de su importancia en el pensamiento y las letras latinoamericanas. A la par de la conmemoración de la epístola ensayo, llamada “carta profética” se reconstruyen las imágenes del “Libertador”, en la obra y pensamiento del ensayista y crítico colombiano Baldomero Sanín Cano, considerado uno de los “Maestros de América” y un faro de la intelectualidad del continente en el siglo XX.
