Summary: The article proposes to place in the current and contemporary context the contents and reflections of Simón Bolivar’s Jamaica Charter concerning the 200 years of its writing and its importance in the Latin American thought and literature. Along with the commemoration of the epistle, called “prophetic letter”, the images of the “Liberator” are reconstructed, in the work and thought of the Colombian essayist and critic Baldomero Sanín Cano, considered one of the “Masters of America” and beacon of the continent’s intellectuality in the XX century. Under these references, the writing emphasizes the relevance and timeliness of both characters; it also proposes to give effect and memory the Utopia of America, based on their opinions, writings, debates and reflections.
