Summary: This study analyzes, based on the Grotberg theoretical model of resilience (2002), the internal strengths, the capacity for coping, and social support perceived by women inmates. The initial hypothesis maintains that certain personal, penalty and penitentiary variables are related to the resilience. A questionnaire has been applied to a women inmates sample (N = 115) in Malaga’s prison (Spain). The study main results point out relatively high levels of resilience and the importance to design programs focused on risk and protective factors in order to guide the intervention.
