Most research in this field is oriented toward the relationship of working conditions with birth outcomes. The prevailing belief is that women's employment is safe. High morbidity rates in women are explained by greater biological and psychological susceptibility. These beliefs are barriers in the development of research in woman's occupational health. Occupational health research basically demostrates causal agents and focuses illness, industry and male workers. The worksenvironments in woman 's occupational health are caracterized by synergic actions of productive and domestic working conditions on health. We conclude that it is necessary to recreate the concept of work, to use early and sensitive indicators, and to apply methodological diversity in research. In order to produce changes, we propose the linking of workers and researchers for clarifying health problems as well as working and living conditions.Los problemas de salud ocupacional de la mujer han sido poco e insuficientemente estudiados. La mayor parte de las investigaciones se refieren a la relación entre trabajo y desenlace del embarazo. Prevalece la creencia de que los trabajos desempeñados por las mujeres son seguros y que la mayor morbilidad registrada se debe a una mayor susceptibilidad biológica y psicológica de la mujer. Estos supuestos se han convertido en obstáculo para el desarrollo de la investigación en salud ocupacional de la mujer. En el campo de la salud ocupacional predomina un interés por el estudio de la enfermedad, en el sector industrial y en la población masculina, con una demostración causal precisa de un agente particular. Las áreas de trabajo donde se concentran las mujeres se caracterizan por condiciones de trabajo con efecto acumulativo, impactando la salud física y mental, en acción sinérgica de factores provenientes del trabajo productivo y doméstico.
