Finally, a number of ideas are proposed as possible means for universities to exercise University Social Responsibility, and an analysis of the progress already made in the matter is made.En el presente ensayo, a partir de una experiencia personal que sirve de disparador para el análisis, el autor esboza el vínculo existente entre el saber y el poder, a efectos de analizar la desigualdad en el acceso a la educación superior y la formación de una élite del conocimiento. A continuación, se plantea la necesidad de generar en las universidades una conciencia respecto de su rol y su impacto en las comunidades en las que se encuentran, a partir de la extrapolación del concepto más conocido de “responsabilidad social empresaria” a una función que toda universidad debería asumir.
