Summary: The present article is a theoretical conceptual revision of urban conflicts. In general, it explains why they arise, if they are typical of urban dynamics, how to settle and what are the relations with law. To do this, the first part reviews some concepts from sociology, such as social movement, conflict and social change; secondly, urban conflict is defined and explained; the different types and ways of solving them, as well as their relationship with governance and metropolitan governance. Finally, the main provisions of the General Law of Human Settlements, Territorial Ordering and Urban Development for the treatment of urban conflict are reviewed and make some final comments on social participation and the right to the city
