Summary: This article aims to provide an overview of the current problems of public employment system in Spain, such as the rigidity occurring in the management of its various components (recruitment, career, salary, ...) as well as the absence of strategic planning in the field. In addition, it includes reflections on the matter, exposed by the Report of the Committee of Experts EBEP 2005, with particular reference to the proposals brokered by the former. Finally, it discusses the future challenges that are presented to the Spanish model of public employment and the current state of development of the Basic Statute of Civil Servant.
