Summary: The present paper analyses the evolution of exchange in Brazilian law, as well as the relationship with the purchase agreement, in the context of collaborative consumption, that have a direct impact on sustainability issues. To that end, we start from the pathologies of consumption in modern society, go through the different implications in social, environmental and economic questions, culminating in the study of the possible alternatives in the dictates of solidarity. In conclusion, we found that the exchange rises as a valuable instrument, within collaborative economy standards, for reaching the social, environmental and economic sustainability, driving the development of an equal, fair and solidarity society
