For this is necessary to determine the generic competencies of the jurist that must be considered in the constructivist learning proposals adaptation to the needs of juridical formation of law student. In this sense, this article proposes five skills that are, in the author´s opinion, essential competencies that give sense to be a jurist and characterized him as a scientist of law, from which can be deduced other ones more specific that apply to the formation in certain context.El enfoque por competencias presenta nuevos horizontes para el análisis de la formación jurídica porque la función transicional de la educación superior proyecta la constante necesidad de construir un perfil académico más científico del jurista, para enriquecer la realidad científica del derecho y lograr una práctica profesional socialmente responsable, que oriente mejor su aplicación pedagógica en el proceso educativo.
