Summary: The competency-based approach presents new horizons for the analysis of legal formation because the transitional role of higher education projects the constant need to build a more scientific academic profile of the jurist to enrich the scientific reality of law and achieve a socially responsible professional practice that guide better the pedagogical application in the educational process. For this is necessary to determine the generic competencies of the jurist that must be considered in the constructivist learning proposals adaptation to the needs of juridical formation of law student. In this sense, this article proposes five skills that are, in the author´s opinion, essential competencies that give sense to be a jurist and characterized him as a scientist of law, from which can be deduced other ones more specific that apply to the formation in certain context.
