This hierarchy does not appear as a result of an objective evaluation of the importance of each field, but as a result of values reproduced in law classes, without being seen clearly. On the basis these considerations, this work studies the structure and dynamics of the struggle for legitimacy of the different academic fields using as a referencethe works of the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu. The main aim is to show that values that are in the professional habitus of those who work with law may be detrimental to a critical evaluation of legal education and to the efforts towards its humanization in the context of Brazilian reality.Key words: legal education, pedagogic practices, Pierre Bourdieu.Neste trabalho pretende-se problematizar as práticas pedagógicas tradicionais doensino jurídico a partir da seguinte premissa: a maneira pela qual os professores apresentam o universo profissional do Direito a seus alunos contribui para a cristalização de uma hierarquia mais ou menos implícita e fluida entre as áreas de conhecimento normalmente estudadas. E essa hierarquia não é necessariamente fruto de uma avaliação objetiva da importância de cada uma das áreas estudadas. É, antes, resultado de valores reproduzidos insensivelmente nas práticas pedagógicas. A partirdessa consideração, abordam-se a estrutura e a dinâmica da disputa por legitimidade entre saberes e setores acadêmicos nas faculdades que oferecem o curso de Direitoa partir da obra do sociólogo francês Pierre Bourdieu.
