Summary: This paper deals with the evolution and development of the unfair terms regulation during the two decades since the enactment of the European Directive on Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts, as well as with its legal implications in the Spanish legal system. In this context, the paper explains the concept of general conditions and unfair terms. Also, it highlights the importance of double checking�inclusion test and unfairness test� in order to guarantee the protection of consumer´s interests. Furthermore, the article refers to the changes carried out with the approval of the European Directive on consumer rights following the same goal: the consumer protection.
