Summary: The school library is the location nearest to teenagers to read because it is in the same school where studies are performed. In this article the advantages involving school libraries for creating reading habits among youth are analyzed. This is also analyzed which should be the requirements to be met for a school library is not confused with a location where there are books, but without adequate library services. From the data of the last report of school libraries of the Ministry of Education of Spain indicates that there are very few libraries with adequate services for the school community, which explains in part the low yields of international reports of student assessment.
