The Constitution remained liberal (with some revolutionary adaptations), but it was far from corresponding to the aspiration for change demanded by the Portuguese society, at the beginning of the twenty century. The constitutional discussion was abruptly interrupted by the Constitution approval in August 1911. Despite the attempt to carry out a reform of the regime, through a constitutional pathway, this reform has never occurred and the republican regime fell without any solution of continuity.A constitucionalização da I República, em 1911, cristalizou uma fórmula parlamentarista que mostrou dificuldades de adaptação ao período revolucionário instaurado com a Revolução de 1910. A Constituição permaneceu liberal (com algumas adaptações arrojadas), mas esteve longe de corresponder aos anseios de mudança que se impunham à sociedade portuguesa do início do séc. XX. A discussão constitucional foi interrompida abruptamente com a sua aprovação, em Agosto de 1911.
