In Colombia, thousands of boys and girls are victims of illegal recruitment. The vulnerability that children face on a daily basis and the prevalent impunity of the recruiters. The fact that the international community is watching the developments closely in the fight against child recruitment, places Colombia in a position where it needs to decide whether to continue to expose itself to the legal consequences of ignoring the rights of its children, or to start to comply with its national and international responsibilities with regards to child protection and accountability.En los últimos 15 años la comunidad internacional ha dirigido esfuerzos importantes para llamar la atención sobre las dimensiones mundiales del fenómeno del reclutamiento de niños y niñas y su uso en hostilidades. Dichos esfuerzos se han materializado en convenciones, protocolos y principios para la protección de la infancia y la penalización de la práctica del reclutamiento, hoy un crimen de guerra. En Colombia miles de niños y niñas están involucrados en el conflicto, en su mayoría como combatientes. Las cifras evidencian la vulnerabilidad de la niñez en Colombia, y la impunidad prevaleciente frente a la práctica del reclutamiento.
