Summary: This paper reveals some ethical concepts underlying the human rights established in the 1991 Political Constitution of Colombia. The predominating ethics in this context is the deontological ethics, especially Kant�s formal theory of moral behavior. To show this, three points are developed: firstly, the ethical principles of the fundamental human rights are shown; secondly, the relationship between humanism and human rights is studied in depth; and finally, it concludes with decision making and fundamental human rights. In this sense, the hypothesis defended in this paper reads as follows: �human rights are supported by some moral principles which involve human beings both, from their theoretical condition, and from their practical condition in the world.�
