Particularly, this article tries to establish, within a historical framework, the origins of this frontier quarrel that has forced Bolivia to permanently protest against the Chilean State. That feature of the Bolivian international affairs has remained a constant that, in the course of time, has changed from a bilateral problem to a multulateral one. This situation has made the complete region to be directly or indirectly affected. These regional implications become relevant in a continental context, giving support to the re-launching of extreme political projects with a clear leftist tendency and whose epicenter is Caracas, followed by La Paz.El presente artículo presenta una lectura histórica de la situación geopolítica del diferendo fronterizo chilenoboliviano. En particular, el artículo busca establecer, a través de la historia, los orígenes del diferendo fronterizo que ha llevado a que Bolivia tenga una reclamación permanente ante el Estado chileno. Esa conducta de la política internacional de Bolivia ha sido una constante, que con el paso del tiempo ha llevado a que de un asunto bilateral se eleve a un tratamiento por parte de Bolivia a nivel multilateral. Estas reclamaciones a todo nivel conllevan a que la región entera se vea afectada, de manera directa o indirecta, por el diferendo.
