The methodology consisted of a theoretical review on the subject and the implementation of an interview to human resources managers and representatives of trade unions of the carmakers: GENERAL MOTORS MITSUBISHI, TOYOTA, CHRYSLER, located in the country. The results show that labor flexibility is producing non typical forms of employment. This trend is dissociated from labor stability and from collective agreements, so, it generates a precarious worker. It is concluded, that the application of labor flexibilization strategies within the mentioned context has the purpose to improve production practices and workforce utilization levels, as well as to increase production and reduce costs by giving priority to the technical dimension over the social one, in other words, over labor relations.El trabajo caracteriza la aplicación de estrategias de flexibilización laboral por parte del sector automotriz venezolano que permiten ajustar las condiciones de trabajo a los cambios del sistema económico. La metodología consistió en una revisión teórica sobre el tema y la aplicación de una entrevista a los gerentes de recursos humanos y representantes de los sindicatos de las ensambladoras: GENERAL MOTORS, MITSUBISHI, TOYOTA y CHRYSLER, ubicadas en el país. Los resultados reflejan que, la flexibilización laboral está suscitando formas de empleo atípicas. Dicha tendencia se desvincula de la estabilidad laboral y de los convenios colectivos, conformando un trabajador precario ante la perdida del empleo estable.
