It concludes by noting that the Constitutional Courts today have a primary role in the defense of democracy, especially by guaranteeing the principle of alternation. However, in some Courts this limitation was not established. La investigación tiene como objetivo analizar la alternancia y reelección presidencial en América Latina. El método empleado fue el analítico-sintético, el cual permitió en el trascurso del estudio analizar las características relevantes en relación al derecho de participación, como al principio de alternabilidad con sus consecuencias en reelección. Se concluye al señalar que las Cortes Constitucionales hoy tienen un rol primordial en la defensa de la democracia, en especial garantizando el principio de alternancia.
