Summary: Some scientific approaches recognize a number of elements that constitute the modern state as crucial to its existence, preservation and perpetuation. Government, as the sum of actors, institutions and bureaucratic procedures, is one of them. But the evolution of this political element has also undergone the multiple transformations of the last decades. Postmodern forces of the capitalist economy, the technological revolution and consumerism have impacted, permeated, and substantially modified its nature, structure and functioning. This article analyses the relationship between government and postmodernity based on three core elements: efficiency, multilevel organization, and the transfer of public policies. To this end, it uses a methodology specific to political theory, particularly the normative contributions framed in the postmodern macro-model and, secondarily, in the theory of the State.
