Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a syndrome of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. There are 3 types of ADHD depending on whether it is predominantly inattentive, also known as ADD, hyperactivity/impulsivity, or a combi-nation of both. In the predominantly inattentive presentation, the individual is characterized by having difficulty organizing or completing a task, paying attention to detail, or following instructions or conversations. The person is easily distracted or forgets details of the daily routine. The role of the family as a socializing agent is of great importance, the parents are the first providers of learning, as well as those who establish norms of behavior, values and attitudes that govern the be-havior of the group and that will direct them to the promotion of a quality of family life. This dynamic will define the support networks that a child with ADHD can count on within their reference nucleus, since the specific demands of this population require joint efforts. Consequently, the fundamental purpose of this review is to capture a compendium of the most relevant aspects of family counseling on ADD for parents. The research was carried out under a bibliographic documentary type methodology, under the review modality. It is more than evident in this type of disorder that the family has a fundamental role in the development of the children who present it, either for the evolution of the behaviors and symptoms presented by them or to aggravate the situation. The population with ADHD requires joint efforts and an indispensable part of these is repre-sented by the family. Family guidance should be aimed at educating, raising awareness and involving all family members in care, especially the parents of children with ADHD for a better approach and better conduction of educational actions.
