Summary: Burns are an important and growing reason for consultation and hospitalization, causing varying degrees of disability and death in many patients. In addition, it is a traumatic situation from the physical and emotional point of view that a participant in the care of this type of patients has in the nurse. Its incidence is directly related to unfavorable socioeconomic conditions, including poverty, overcrowding, alcoholism and epilepsy, common factors in many patients. Objective. Understand the knowledge and practices of the nursing professional in the care of the burn patient. Materials and methods. The study was carried out in theses, magazines, books and research articles, on the subject of knowledge and practices about the nursing professional in the care of the burned patient. Results: Burns are today a major health problem with repercussions both for the patients who suffer them and for the nursing professionals who care for them. Conclusions: The following work shows that knowing the care of the burned patient is of great importance, since it helps the nursing professional as a tool to establish a care plan for the burned patient.
