This article contributes to the study of the personal and social attributes, the political-party membership and the previous public trajectory in terms of gender of the people who held the highest provincial executive positions in Argentina. The quantitative methodological strategy implemented —not only descriptive but also inferential— has helped to demonstrate associations and relationships between variables with statistical significance. The main findings indicate that there are no significant differences in terms of age but in the number of children and educational level. Regarding previous political trajectories, it is observed that women have mainly held seats in the legislative branches and men have occupied seats in the executive branches.La literatura académica sobre la participación política de las mujeres se ha centrado en el acceso, las condiciones y la trayectoria política en los poderes legislativos a nivel nacional. Más escasos han sido los estudios sobre los niveles subnacionales. Este artículo realiza una contribución al estudio de los atributos personales, sociales, la pertenencia político-partidaria y la trayectoria pública previa en clave de género de las personas que ocuparon los máximos cargos ejecutivos provinciales en la Argentina. La estrategia metodológica cuantitativa implementada —no solo descriptiva, sino también inferencial— ha permitido demostrar asociaciones y relaciones entre variables con significancia estadística. Los principales hallazgos indican que no existen diferencias significativas en cuanto a la edad, pero sí respecto de la cantidad de hijos e hijas y el nivel educativo.
