Laburpena: This contribution aims to propose a reflection on the forms of conflict in Italian prisons before and two years after the start of the pandemic. Italian prisons - places of condemnation due to overcrowding and inhuman and degrading conditions - have been the scene of riots that caused 14 deaths and many wounded after the start of the pandemic: why did they occur? What forms of conflict were there in the prisons before the pandemic and which ones during it? What kind of violence developed during that period? What did these days of open conflict leave behind? The intervention aims to try to answer these questions by reconstructing the facts and proposing a critical theoretical framework on the forms of abuse and conflicts in prison with a focus on the types of violence: symbolic, political, structural and how to define the structural suffering of prisoners in general and in particular after years of physical suffering, fear of the virus and worsening living conditions in prisons, from a qualitative methodological approach and unstructured interviews with prison administration employees.
