Summary: The objective of this paper is to evaluate the influence of ESC on sustainable development. Starting with the idea that development evolves multiple aspects linked to economics, society and sustainable features, stands out the comprehension that sustainable development contains all of them. The promotion of sustainable development through the UN 2030 agenda sets out a number of objectives to guide the action of the States. Among the objectives small business receive some attention in a way that is necessary to investigate the forms of exercising the business activity and the criteria used to measure the size of the company. In Brazil, although the vast majority of private enterprises consist in small business, they have the worst financing conditions. Therefore, ESC is evaluated as an alternative to small business financing as an alternative to sustainable development. Methodologically, a qualitative research is chosen due to the lack of control groups for an econometric evaluation, in addition with bibliographic techniques, interdisciplinary research and inductive and deductive reasoning. Finally, it is possible to infer that the ESC are effective instruments for sustainable development.
