Summary: This essay analyzes the political implications of some "scientific" discourses, such as some versions of neuroscience, that promote the objectification of human life as a mere biological natural resource, suitable to be used in a useful and productive way. This is the rationality of an instrumental policy on life, a utilitarian biopolitics. The discourse of human rights and bioethics can reverse this logic by defending the thesis that life is the category that ethically challenges science and politics, demanding that it be a politics of life.
