Through a bibliographical research, the study identifies as the main function of criminology the visibility of large damages, something that can only be achieved if its epistemological limits are extended. The research is divided into studies on state crimes, market crimes, state-corporate crimes, and ends by signaling some difficulties of empirical research in the area. It is necessary to strengthen the study agenda in criminology, as well as an interdisciplinary investigation of harms resulting from the manipulation of power.Este trabalho objetiva identificar limites e possibilidades da criminologia crítica nos estudos dos danos sociais provocados por instituições poderosas. Através de pesquisa bibliográfica, o estudo identifica como principal função da criminologia a visibilização dos danos de grandes proporções, algo que somente pode ser atingido se ampliados os seus limites epistemológicos. A pesquisa se divide nos estudos sobre crimes dos Estados, crimes dos mercados, crimes estatal-corporativos, e encerra sinalizando algumas dificuldades da pesquisa empírica na área. This work aims to identify the limits and possibilities of critical criminology in the studies of social harm caused by powerful institutions.
