Research about social participation in mexican municipalities tends to be directed towards its implementation, institutionalisation, and development or sometimes to the analysis of its contribution to democratic culture under governance. Nevertheless, there remains a lack of knowledge within those who practice this kind of participation. This article digs into Zapopan’s members of neighborhood organizations through a survey that allows to ex-plore the context and personal motivations that make these people involved in public agenda and activities. The main goal of this paper is to contribute to the understanding of citizenship mechanisms from the perspective of those who practice them, and by doing so, also help to improve public policy design at municipal level |
