Summary: Gonzalo Pizarro's rebellion was one of the greatest challenges to his authority that Charles I had to face, with the added difficulty of the distance and the weakness of the new institutional framework established by the Leyes Nuevas, which only increased the conflict. The aim of this study is to analyse the main ‘oficiales de la pluma' of the Real Audiencia ofLima (chancellor, registrer and Chamber Scribe) and their participation during Gonzalo Pizarro's insurrection. These offices were occupied by influential members of Lima society who did not hesitate to defend the royal authority and its re-establishment, going beyond what might be thought of as professionals in the field of writing and documents.
