Summary: One of the novelties of the Spanish Act 7/2022, of April 8th, on waste and contaminated soils for a circular economy lies in the inclusion of a specific title devoted to prevention. Although the prevention principle is a classic instrument of environmental and waste law, the new Spanish act includes a set of provisions granting it a special relevance. In short, the law establishes general quantitative and qualitative prevention objectives and also in relation to certain types of waste. This paper aims at critically analyzing the aforementioned regulations contained in articles 17, 18 and 19 of the Act, components of Title II, dedicated to waste prevention.
