It has been demonstrated that police protocols do not adequately address this phenomenon, and therefore, officers are unaware of how to deal with these situations. A mixed methodology was used: a survey with sample n = 1291 and a review of police protocols. The results obtained show that 717 (55.5%) of the respondents are unaware of the excited delirium syndrome. Only 274 (21.2%) know of the existence of protocols for the restrain of violent or agitated people in their Agencies. The protocols analyzed are those of the Policía Nacional, Guardia Civil, Ertzaintza, Policía Foral de Navarra and Mossos d´EsquadraGuardia Urbana de Barcelona. Propososal of guidelines for police protocols is made.El presente artículo tiene como objetivo analizar el conocimiento de las Fuerzas y Cuerpos de Seguridad en España sobre el síndrome del delirio agitado y las muertes en privación de libertad de los sujetos que lo padecen. Se ha demostrado que los protocolos policiales no abordan este fenómeno de forma adecuada, y por ello, los agentes desconocen cómo afrontar estas situaciones. Se ha utilizado una metodología mixta: una encuesta con muestra n=1291 y una revisión de protocolos policiales. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que 717 (55,5 %) de los encuestados desconocen el síndrome del delirio agitado. Solo 274 (21,2 %) conoce la existencia de protocolos de contención de personas violentas o agitadas de su Cuerpo. Los protocolos analizados son los de Policía Nacional, Guardia Civil, Ertzaintza, Policía Foral de Navarra y Mossos d´Esquadra-Guardia Urbana de Barcelona.
